Description

He was born with small wings folded under his arms and a caul his mother hid in the rafters, because a drangue who loses that shirt loses everything. Nobody in the village knows. He is a quiet young man who works his father's land and watches the girl at the spring and says nothing - until the drought comes, and the thing in the mountain wakes, and the sky above the valley starts to turn the colour of a bruise. Then he goes up onto the roof in the rain, and everyone finds out at once what he is.
