Description
Her sister rules the world below. She has the sky, and the difference between them is that anyone can find a hole in the ground - reaching her means giving something up on the way. The young man who does it arrives with nothing left and no way home, and what he finds is not a reward waiting to be claimed: she has been alone a very long time, she has watched people climb toward her for the wrong reasons, and she has learned to tell within a minute which kind has arrived. Keeping her turns out to be a different problem entirely from reaching her.
