Description

Three brothers build a castle on the bluff above two rivers and every night the walls fall down. A voice tells them the stone will not stand until it is given a life: whichever brother's wife brings the men their food tomorrow must be built into the foundation. The two older brothers warn theirs. The youngest keeps his word and says nothing, and at noon the youngest wife comes up the path with her husband's bread and their newborn son on her hip. She does not run. She asks for one thing - an opening left in the stone - and the story of what she asks for is why the castle has her name.
