The Long Way Home

Description

Troy has fallen. Every other captain turns for home, and one does not. At Tenedos the fleet splits over an argument about offerings, and Odysseus of Ithaca picks the wrong half - a decision that looks like nothing at the time and costs him ten years. What follows is not a war story. It is a man trading away everything that identifies him, island by island, to stay alive long enough to reach a house he is no longer sure is waiting. This adapts the narrative of the Odyssey rather than any translation of it, and opens where Homer only reports: the night the fighting stopped.
